This class focuses on the experimental approaches to ceramics. You will be shown less conventional methods of making ceramics and introduced to new ways of hand-building while mixing a variety of different clays. You will be introduced to raw materials and pigments which can be mixed with the clay and create a variety of effects during the glaze firing. During this workshop, one will discover a more immediate, expressive approach to ceramic practice.
We will show you the possibility of mixing the clay with organic material while creating sculptural work by using flowers, grasses, branches, hair, etc.
You will be introduced to the process of marbling with the liquid clay as well as we will show you how to create marbled slabs.
Day one: Introduction to raw materials & pigments. Creating the ceramics object by using raw materials, combustibles, and pigments.
Materials and practice:
Paper clay, porcelain, stoneware- exploring its properties and its potential as a medium for expression.
Mixing different types of stoneware with porcelain and raw materials
Transforming organic objects into delicate porcelain sculptures by dipping them into the slip.
Day two: Shaping/trimming the pieces from the previous day.
Day three: Open Studio Session gives you access to our studio during open hours where you can further work on your ideas and create new pieces without supervision.
This course is either for the adventurous beginners or rather for those with some experience of ceramic practice.
